A Violent Storm

So… my sweetheart is off at a U2 concert and I’m here with the kiddos.  It’s been good, for the most part.  I have cute kids.  Of course, there is this thing called Jeremy’s Temper I have to deal with on pretty much a daily basis.  Today was no exception.  A violent storm.  Can a four-year-old be bipolar?  Sometimes I wonder, really.  He’s fine and then BAM!  Something, ANYTHING can set him off.  And he gets SO PISSED OFF.  He usually glares and broods then goes off to find something to hit repeatedly.  Thankfully he chooses inanimate objects, like walls or doors and not his cutie-pie sister.  Whew… it’s exhausting.  Of course, I know where he gets it… hee hee, guilty.  I have learned to control myself, somewhat.  I don’t typically hit things anymore.  I guess I’m just reminded that the only reason I DON’T hit things anymore is because I know and love Jesus— don’t think He’s too impressed with the temper tantrum thing, ya know?  Jeremy doesn’t really know Him much yet, certainly not in a way that he would want to follow His example and such.  In time, in time.  Till then, guess we’d better invest in a punching bag….

School :)

So, the school year starts on Wednesday.  Actually, it started for me LAST Wednesday, because I’m a teacher, you see.  I found out last week that I am now the happy teacher of Sociology!  Ha!  I am very excited about that, but it has certainly made this week a bit busier than I had anticipated.  I’m already tired, too.  Booo.  Oh well, we can sleep when… we’re old?  Of course, by that point, we won’t be able to sleep.  It seems like old people never sleep, or not much… or maybe too much.  ANYWAY.  Looking forward to seeing all my new students.  The first days are always a little bittersweet, too— last year’s seniors are… gone.  Gone, off being the wonderful young men and women God created them to be at some incredible university somewhere.  Whoa.  But we only have time for a moment of sadness because once things get rolling, well, they don’t stop.  Don’t imagine this year will be any different, in that regard.  I’m excited for the seniors of 2011— it will be THEIR year to shine!  They are quite different than the seniors of 2010… and that is GOOD.  It will be a fun year, in it’s own way.  Well, enough of this rambling… off to bed.

Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Frosting

is probably one of the best tastes in the world.  I think it’s my favorite.   I will always think of one of my best friends, Pam, now every time I taste this amazing flavor.  We had a goodbye party for Pam and her family up at the school last night; I made funfetti cupcakes and, of course, they were topped with Pillsbury chocolate fudge frosting.  Only the best for the best!  It didn’t really sink in till I heard everyone saying such wonderful and encouraging things to this incredible family that they really are leaving.  What will we do without them?  What will I do?  Pam has been my sounding board for just about EVERYTHING.  She is a great friend, for so many reasons.  I’ve learned to be a better teacher, parent, wife and friend under her mentorship.  I guess when one of your pillars leaves, it’s God’s way of saying, “Okay, now YOU need to become a pillar for someone else from what you’ve learned.”  But… I don’t wanna! (to be said in a whiny three-year-old voice, complete with foot-stomping).  Alas, it is time.  I pray that though we will surely keep up through cyberspace, God will one day be so good as to bring our paths back together again.  Thanks, Pam, you are much loved!

This is my adorable all-most-three-year-old!  Her current favorite movie?  Monsters, Inc. of course!  Here she is being “Boo.”  It’s quite uncanny the similarities between the two…

Christian Fundamentalists at their worst…

So, have you heard about this ridiculous idea:  International Burn a Koran Day?  Yeah, completely un-Christlike.  And who is sponsoring said event?  None other than a “Christian” organization, the Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL.  Just what do they hope to accomplish?  How could this possibly make the world better?  I understand that Americans are still hurt and grieving about September 11, 2001, but the truth is that Muslim terrorists are a tiny minority of those who claim the Muslim faith.  I live in a city surrounded by millions (literally!) of Muslims and typical behavior includes the following:  helping me get my crazy kids across the street, giving up their seat on a bus so that I can sit down, and not freaking out if I don’t have exactly the right amount of money at the local store.  ”It’s okay,” they say, “just bring the rest the next time you come in!”

So, how do I explain that in my country we have an International Burn a Koran Day?  Might as well slap them in the face as a “thank you” next time one of them gives my kid a lollipop.  I certainly won’t be claiming the title “Christian.”  I certainly don’t want to be lumped in with those folks.  I’ll stick with Jesus; He wouldn’t be for this pathetic display of animosity and hatred.  His gospel is one of love and peace… don’t see this stunt bringing us any closer to THAT goal.  ”Overcome evil with GOOD.”  Sheesh.
